French police detained Egyptian Olympic wrestler Mohamed Elsayed in the early hours of Friday on suspicion of sexual assault outside a Paris cafe, according to the Paris prosecutor's office.

The arrest followed allegations that Elsayed had touched the buttocks of another cafe patron, prompting an ongoing investigation. Although police initially withheld the wrestler's name, an Egyptian delegation official confirmed his identity.

Elsayed, who earned a bronze medal at the Tokyo Games, was eliminated in the early stages in Paris. Egyptian officials are currently in discussions regarding the allegations.
