Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday inspected the increased water levels of the Ganga River at several crucial points, urging district officials to remain vigilant amid the developing situation.

The Ganga is flowing above the danger mark at Gandhi Ghat and Hathidah in Patna district, and in Bhagalpur, the river has touched the critical red mark, officials reported.

Kumar's inspection covered key locations such as J P Setu, Kangan Ghat, Kali Ghat, Gandhi Ghat, and Krishna Ghat, according to an official statement. The Chief Minister instructed the district administration to stay prepared for potential escalation if water levels rise further.

The surge in the Ganga's water level is also attributed to increased discharge from the Sone River, said a senior official from the Water Resources Department.

Meanwhile, the Patna Meteorological Centre has forecast light to moderate rainfall across most parts of Bihar in the coming days. In Muzaffarpur, the Bagmati River's rising levels have flooded many low-lying areas. Additionally, the Gandak River is flowing above the danger mark near Sidhwalia in Gopalganj, and the Koshi River is above the red mark at Basua in Supaul.
