King Charles has made an appeal for mutual respect and understanding following the recent racist riots targeting Muslims and migrants in Britain, a Buckingham Palace spokesman revealed on Friday. This marks the monarch's first intervention since the unrest began last week.

The King expressed gratitude towards the police and emergency services for their effective response to the disturbances. He also commended community groups for opposing 'the aggression and criminality from a few,' according to the spokesman. 'It remains His Majesty's hope that shared values of mutual respect and understanding will continue to strengthen and unite the nation,' the spokesman added after Charles spoke with Prime Minister Keir Starmer and police chiefs by telephone.

Thousands of specialized police officers are scheduled to remain on duty this weekend in case the riots, which had subsided for three days, resume. The unrest erupted nationwide following online posts that inaccurately identified the suspect in a July 29 knife attack in Southport, northwest England, as an Islamist migrant.

In the 1970s, Charles founded the Princes Trust, a charity that has since assisted a million young individuals in finding employment or starting community projects. The charity continues its operations, including in areas affected by the recent riots, after Charles ascended to the throne.
