Two men were arrested for possessing unaccounted cash amounting to around Rs three crore while traveling from Tamil Nadu to Chittur district, police said Saturday.

The accused, hailing from Angadippuram in Malappuram district, failed to provide satisfactory documentation or explanation regarding the source of the money.

Upon a tip-off, a team of Chittur police conducted a vehicle inspection and discovered Rs 2.97 crore hidden in a secret compartment near the driver's seat.

Police suspect the cash to be related to hawala transactions and have invoked relevant sections of BNS, including 111(3) (economic offence). A detailed investigation is underway, and the accused will be produced before the court soon.
