A city court on Saturday mandated a 14-day police remand for the man accused in the rape and murder of a woman postgraduate trainee doctor.
The suspect, charged under sections 64 (rape) and 103 (murder) of the BNS, faced the Sealdah court after his arrest earlier in the day. The judge approved the prosecution's request for a remand until August 23, allowing further interrogation concerning the crime.
The victim's body was found in the seminar hall of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in north Kolkata on Friday. A preliminary autopsy confirmed that she had been sexually assaulted prior to her murder.
