A 13-year-old boy died from electrocution after coming into contact with an electric pole in Ranhola, police reported on Sunday.

The incident occurred while the boy was playing cricket. The Ranhola police station received an emergency call on Saturday afternoon, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Jimmy Chiram said.

Police arrived at the scene and learned that the boy was playing cricket in Kotla Vihar Phase-2 when he touched an iron pole supplying electricity to a cowshed, resulting in his electrocution, according to DCP Chiram.

He was immediately taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead, the DCP added.

An FIR has been registered under Section 106 (1) for causing death by negligence. Meanwhile, the teen's mother, Anita Devi, demanded strict action against the cowshed and the Power Department.

Many children play cricket in the area, and this incident highlights the danger they face, Devi stated. She also alleged that no one helped her son, despite her elder son's cries for assistance.

Later, family members and local residents blocked the Nangloi-Najafgarh road, demanding compensation and justice, leading to protests against the police and the power distribution company, with some protesters declaring they would not cremate the boy until compensation was announced.

Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva expressed sorrow over the incident and called for an investigation. He stated that a case of criminal negligence should be registered in all such incidents of electrocution.

A source from the power discom indicated that the incident happened within an enclosed playground when the boy touched a pole that was leaking power, possibly due to an internal wire wrapped around it.
