The Maharashtra Cabinet has cleared a significant proposal to convert over one lakh acres of class II land in Marathwada into freehold, giving occupants complete ownership rights.
This decision addresses a long-standing demand, almost 60 years old, and removes barriers for development in these regions. In addition to the land conversion, a revised budget of Rs 37,000 crore for road construction and an extended deadline for power loom concessions have also been approved.
The conversion of class II land, which had conditional occupancy, is expected to have a positive impact on the current landholders, who will pay a certain amount to the state government to complete the transition.
