The Maharashtra cabinet on Tuesday gave the green light to convert over one lakh acres of class II land in the Marathwada region into freehold status, granting full ownership to the current occupants. This change is expected to have significant positive impact on the residents.
Class II occupancy, a conditional holding with restrictions, has been an obstacle for nearly 60 years. Government officials stated that amendments to the Hyderabad Atiyat Inquiries Act, 1952, and the Hyderabad Abolition of Inams and Cash Grants Act, 1954, are necessary for this conversion.
Additionally, the cabinet revised the budget for constructing 6,000 km of concrete roads, increasing the state's contribution to Rs 11,089 crore. The deadline for power loom concessions was extended to March 2025 and plans to establish solar power plants in Yavatmal, Washim, and Chandrapur districts were also approved.
