Ukraine has announced it holds no interest in occupying Russia's Kursk region, despite a major cross-border incursion into the area. According to the Ukrainian foreign ministry's spokesperson, the operation aims to disrupt Russian military logistics and their ability to send reinforcements to Ukraine's eastern front.
Speaking to reporters in Kyiv, Heorhii Tykhyi, the ministry's spokesman, clarified that Ukraine's focus is on protecting its citizens rather than seizing territory. President Volodymyr Zelenskiy noted that the Kursk region has been a launch site for over two thousand attacks on Ukraine since June, and the recent incursion has allowed Ukrainian forces to capture strategic points used for these strikes.
The operation, Tykhyi emphasized, is crucial for hindering Russia's ability to transfer military units to the Donetsk region, thereby complicating their logistics. This strategy aims to strengthen Ukraine's position on the frontlines.
