The Punjab Police announced on Tuesday the successful dismantling of a cross-border smuggling module with the arrest of two suspects in Tarn Taran, leading to the recovery of sophisticated weapons.

The Director General of Police (DGP), Gaurav Yadav, identified the detainees as Jatinder Singh from village Thatha and Navtej Singh from Muhawa, both in Tarn Taran.

Authorities confiscated four 9MM pistols along with four magazines from the suspects and impounded their motorcycle.

DGP Yadav revealed that the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) had received intelligence regarding the suspects' involvement in smuggling illegal weapons across borders.

The arrested individuals were reportedly in contact with various Pakistan-based smugglers and had recently acquired a consignment of smuggled weapons for delivery near Baba Budha ji Charitable Hospital in Chabal, Tarn Taran.

Acting on the intel, SSOC Amritsar coordinated a swift and strategic operation, cordoning off the area and successfully apprehending both suspects, along with the weapon consignment.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused had been receiving consignments of illegal weapons sent through drones by their cross-border handlers.
