Naveen Patnaik, leader of the opposition in the Odisha assembly and former chief minister, has made an urgent appeal to citizens to maintain peace and harmony amidst reports of social unrest in the state.
Patnaik emphasized Odisha's longstanding tradition of communal harmony and expressed concern over recent incidents of discrimination and violence.
He called on the state government and officials to take decisive action to maintain law and order, safeguard citizens' rights, and protect the state's reputation.
Additional Director General (Law and Order) Sanjay Kumar acknowledged an incident involving the demands for identity proof from specific community members, stating that strict actions would be taken against such behavior.
Kumar also highlighted heightened security measures in place to prevent illegal entry from Bangladesh and assured that no further major incidents were reported.
