Vyacheslav Gladkov, the governor of Russia's Belgorod region, announced a state of emergency on Wednesday due to persistent attacks by Ukrainian forces. In a video shared on the Telegram app, Gladkov described the situation as 'extremely difficult and tense.'

The governor highlighted that daily shelling by Ukrainian armed forces has led to the destruction of homes and resulted in civilian casualties, both in terms of deaths and injuries. This continuous assault has forced local authorities to take drastic measures.

'Starting today, we are declaring a regional emergency situation throughout the Belgorod region,' Gladkov stated, adding that they will appeal to the federal government to escalate this to a federal emergency situation if necessary.
