Senior TMC MP Sukhendu Sekhar Ray fiercely condemned the alleged rape and murder of a doctor at a state-run hospital in Kolkata. Ray announced his plans to hold a dharna from 5 PM to 9 PM in solidarity with women set to protest at midnight on Wednesday.
Women across Kolkata and West Bengal districts are gearing up for a midnight protest against the heinous crime at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Expressing full support for the cause, Ray cited familial ties, highlighting his daughter and granddaughter, as personal motivations for his activism.
However, another TMC leader, Kunal Ghosh, warned against politics influencing the protests, while endorsing zero tolerance for crimes against women in Bengal. The Calcutta High Court has since mandated the transfer of the investigation to the CBI amid growing public outrage and a crippled state healthcare system.
