An Army captain and a terrorist were killed during an ongoing operation in Jammu's Doda district, officials confirmed on Wednesday.
The incident, which also left a civilian injured, occurred on the eve of Independence Day and is the latest in a series of violent encounters in the Jammu region.
The operation, involving a joint team of security personnel, was launched to track foreign terrorists hiding in the thickly-forested Shivgarh-Assar area. Captain Deepak Singh, critically injured during the operation, succumbed to his injuries in a military hospital. The Army stated that one terrorist was neutralized and an AK 47 recovered, though intermittent firing continues. Four blood-soaked rucksacks and M-4 carbines were also seized.
Officials believe the terrorists fled into Doda from Udhampur after a brief exchange of fire on Tuesday evening. Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Anand Jain and top officers are supervising the ongoing operation.
The Army expressed deep condolences for Captain Singh's sacrifice and vowed support for his family. The region has seen increased terrorist activity, with multiple encounters reported in recent days.
