A 14-year-old Dalit girl was allegedly kidnapped from her home in Muzaffarpur district, Bihar, with her body later discovered in a pond with multiple injury marks, police reported on Wednesday.
The incident was traced to a village in the Paru police station area. Muzaffarpur Senior Superintendent of Police Rakesh Kumar stated that family members claim the abduction happened on the night of August 11, and her body was found the next day. A case has been registered against six individuals, one of whom is named and hails from the same village. The accused was reportedly infatuated with the victim and had earlier sought her hand in marriage.
Media reports suggest the girl may have been raped before her murder, though the SSP noted that preliminary forensic tests do not indicate injuries on the girl's private parts. Instead, injuries were found on her head, neck, and arms, leading to her death. A trowel, likely used by the attackers, was found near the scene. Criticism has arisen against the state government, with opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav condemning the rise of serious crimes under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's administration.
