Chad Opens Consulate in Western Sahara, Backs Morocco's Claim
Chad has inaugurated a consulate in Western Sahara, joining other African and Arab nations in affirming support for Morocco's sovereignty over the disputed region. Morocco claims the territory, while the Algeria-backed Polisario Front seeks independence. A total of 29 countries have shown support by opening consulates in Layoune and Dakhla.

Chad inaugurated a consulate in Western Sahara on Wednesday, aligning with several African and Arab nations that have established diplomatic missions in the region. This move signifies support for Morocco's sovereignty over the disputed area.
Morocco views Western Sahara as part of its territory, a claim contested by the Algeria-backed Polisario Front, which aims to create an independent state there.
To date, 29 countries have demonstrated their backing of Morocco's claim by opening consulates in the Western Sahara cities of Layoune and Dakhla.
