Uttar Pradesh Increases Advocate Welfare Fund to Aid Deceased Lawyers’ Families

The Uttar Pradesh government has allocated Rs 28.31 crore from the Advocate Welfare Fund to support the families of 577 deceased lawyers, according to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday.
During a ceremony at Lok Bhawan, Adityanath and Allahabad High Court Chief Justice Arun Bhansali distributed demo checks to the beneficiaries, expressing the government’s full commitment to supporting the affected families. The Chief Minister conveyed his condolences, revealing that since 2017-2018, Rs 134.32 crore has been distributed to the families of 2,754 advocates.
Adityanath also announced that the fund’s corpus would be increased from Rs 200 crore to Rs 500 crore, with further increases promised if necessary. The assistance amount was raised from Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 5 lakh, and the maximum age for beneficiaries was extended from 60 to 70 years. Additionally, since its inception, the government has provided financial aid for books and journals to young advocates, benefiting 3,758 lawyers.
Chief Justice Bhansali praised the legal profession as essential pillars of the legal system, highlighting their role in advocating for the underprivileged and upholding constitutional rights. He also emphasized the esteemed status of the profession in society.
