West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose expressed grave concerns on Monday about the state's current situation and committed to making Bengal safer for women. His remarks came during a Rakhi celebration at Raj Bhavan, attended by women doctors and LGBT community representatives, where rakhis were tied around his wrists as a symbolic gesture.
''In West Bengal, democracy is degenerating. This cannot go on,'' stated Bose, calling for collective action to protect women. ''Today, we have to pledge to protect our daughters and sisters,'' he added. Bose stressed the need for societal change, highlighting the failure to provide a safe environment for women as a glaring deficiency in a civilized society.
Bose reassured the attendees of his steadfast commitment to their cause, emphasizing teamwork and persistence. ''This is the time to come together, which will be the beginning. Keeping together is progress and working together is success. My responsibility as a Governor is to serve the people. I know the goal is far and the road is long, but the march is on. We will certainly reach our destination. I am with you, I am for you,'' Bose concluded.
