Maharashtra Cabinet Minister Girish Mahajan has justified the police action taken against protesters at Badlapur station in Thane district. Demonstrators obstructed rail tracks for hours, demanding justice for the alleged sexual assault of two minor girls at a local school by a sweeper.
As train services resumed after a 10-hour disruption, Mahajan stated that the government had accepted most of the protesters' demands but could not agree to their call for the public execution of the accused perpetrator.
Opposition leader Ambadas Danve announced plans for a state-wide agitation, criticizing both the government's and the police's handling of the incident.
