India's Competition Commission (CCI) has issued a stern warning to its staff against sharing unauthorized information with the media. Citing a 1964 rule, the memo reminds employees that such actions are strictly prohibited.

The memo, dated August 20 and seen by Reuters, reveals concerns about media leaks pertaining to ongoing cases. 'It has been observed that of late certain information related to the cases (under review) are published/available in the media ... this has been viewed very seriously,' the memo states.

The CCI is currently investigating several high-profile companies, including Amazon, Walmart's Flipkart, Reliance, Walt Disney, and Pernod Ricard. Recently, it was reported that the CCI found the $8.5 billion merger between Reliance and Disney potentially harmful to competition due to their control over cricket broadcast rights. Additionally, the CCI has taken steps to recall reports that accuse Apple of violating competition laws. The memo also warns that disciplinary actions could be taken against those who do not comply with the rules, even after they leave the CCI.
