The Allahabad High Court has deferred the hearing of senior Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan's appeal challenging his two-year jail sentence in a hate speech case. The hearing will now take place on September 4.

Khan allegedly made the controversial speech in Rampur during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, targeting Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and the District Magistrate of Rampur. A criminal case was subsequently filed against him at Shahjadnagar police station.

A charge sheet was submitted against Khan, leading to a trial that concluded on July 15, 2023, with a two-year imprisonment sentence. Khan's initial appeal against this sentence was rejected by the MP-MLA court on January 23, 2024, prompting him to file for a revision in the Allahabad High Court.
