NSSO concludes Data User Conference on Annual Survey of Unincorporated Sector Enterprises

The National Sample Survey Office (NSSO), under the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation (MoSPI), successfully concluded the Data User Conference on the Annual Survey of Unincorporated Sector Enterprises (ASUSE) for the periods 2021-22 and 2022-23 today at the Le Royal Meridian Hotel.

The conference served as a vital platform for engaging with approximately 150 attendees from various Central Ministries, international organizations, academic institutions, and 50 data users who participated through open registration. Around 100 additional participants joined the discussions via YouTube.

Key figures at the event included Prof. Rajeeva Laxman Karandikar, Chairman of the National Statistical Commission (NSC); Dr. Saurabh Garg, Secretary of MoSPI; and Dr. N. Bhanumurthy, Director at the Madras School of Economics. The event also saw the presence of NSC members and representatives from the Steering Committee of the National Sample Survey.

Ms. Geeta Singh Rathore, DG of NSSO, welcomed attendees and provided an overview of ASUSE, highlighting its role in capturing the economic and operational characteristics of unincorporated sector enterprises. She emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in using data for informed decision-making.

Dr. Saurabh Garg reiterated the Ministry's dedication to bringing crucial data to the forefront and underscored the significance of ASUSE in understanding the unincorporated sector's economic impact. He highlighted the necessity of accurate data interpretation and effective application for strategic planning and policy-making.

Dr. Bhanumurthy delivered a compelling special address, stressing the strategic role of data in shaping economic policies and supporting inclusive growth. He noted how ASUSE data offers critical insights into the unincorporated sector, aiding in the formulation of effective policies.

Prof. Karandikar praised MoSPI's efforts in improving data processes and reducing report release times. He called for using ASUSE data to address the sector's challenges and opportunities.

The conference included three technical sessions covering:

Objectives, concepts, definitions, and methodologies of ASUSE.

Unit-level data analysis and quality assurance.

Data collection processes.

A dynamic panel discussion on "Enhancing Stakeholder Engagement through Data" explored ways to improve data usability and communication with stakeholders. The discussion focused on strategies for fostering collaborative engagement and refining data processes to enhance decision-making.

The conference concluded with a commitment to leveraging data for evidence-based policies and sustainable development. Attendees engaged in open discussions, Q&A sessions, and shared insights to support the effective use of ASUSE data.
