Veteran General Appointed as Special Assistant in Bangladesh's Interim Government

Professor Muhammad Yunus, head of Bangladesh's interim government, has appointed retired Lieutenant General Abdul Hafiz as his special assistant on security and national reconciliation. Hafiz, a former chief of general staff and experienced UN peacekeeping force commander, will now serve with the status of an adviser or minister to Yunus.

Bangladesh's interim government leader, Professor Muhammad Yunus, on Friday announced the appointment of retired Lieutenant General Abdul Hafiz as his special assistant on security and national reconciliation affairs, akin to the status of an adviser or minister.

An official gazette notification confirmed Hafiz's role, noting he will assist Chief Adviser Yunus in matters concerning security and national reconciliation.

Officials noted that the 67-year-old Hafiz, previously the chief of general staff, has served in UN peacekeeping missions and holds extensive military education from China, the US, and France.
