DoP Partners with ISRO to Launch Standardized Geo-Coded Addressing System in India

The MoU was signed in the presence of Ms. Manju Kumar, Member (Operations) from the Department of Posts, and Dr. Prakash Chauhan, Director of NRSC, ISRO.

In a major step towards establishing a standardized, geo-coded addressing system across India, the Department of Posts (DoP) has signed a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC) of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on August 22, 2024. Announced on the eve of the first-ever National Space Day on August 23, 2024, this collaboration aims to integrate NRSC's advanced satellite data and remote sensing expertise with DoP's extensive infrastructure, alongside a partnership with the National Institute of Urban Affairs.

The MoU was signed in the presence of Ms. Manju Kumar, Member (Operations) from the Department of Posts, and Dr. Prakash Chauhan, Director of NRSC, ISRO. The partnership will focus on developing and refining a geo-coded addressing system to simplify addressing and enhance the efficiency of public and private service deliveries.

Minister of Communications & Development of the North Eastern Region, Shri Jyotiraditya M Scindia, welcomed the collaboration, stating, "This partnership between the Department of Posts and NRSC, ISRO will revolutionize the addressing system in India. The geo-coded system will enhance tracking, streamline delivery services, and optimize delivery routes, reflecting the citizen-centric approach of our public delivery systems."

This initiative marks a significant milestone in India's journey towards digital transformation and geospatial excellence, in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of leveraging geospatial technologies for inclusive growth and progress.
