A man from Navi Mumbai allegedly duped a woman of Rs 12.65 lakh by promising her a job and hacking her Instagram account to share objectionable messages. The accused threatened to harm her family and claimed he would die by suicide, blaming her. Police have booked him under various charges.

A Navi Mumbai resident has been accused of defrauding a woman out of Rs 12.65 lakh by promising her a job and hacking her Instagram account to post objectionable messages, an official confirmed on Saturday.
The suspect, a 20-year-old man, assured the 25-year-old woman from Turbhegaon that he could get her a position in a public sector undertaking. Since July 2021, he took Rs 12.65 lakh from her but failed to secure the job as promised. When the woman demanded her money back, the accused threatened to commit suicide and blame her for his death, according to APMC police.
Furthermore, he allegedly threatened the woman's family and hacked her Instagram account to share offensive posts. Law enforcement has booked the suspect for criminal breach of trust and intimidation under the Indian Penal Code, as well as violations of the IT Act, officials added.
