US National Arrested for Illegal Border Crossing in Bihar

A 57-year-old US citizen, Christopher Jay Chew, was arrested in Bihar's Sitamarhi district for attempting to cross into Nepal without valid travel documents. Intercepted by SSB personnel, he had no identity proof and was handed over to district police for further interrogation.

A 57-year-old US national, Christopher Jay Chew, was arrested in Bihar's Sitamarhi district for attempting to cross into Nepal without valid travel documents, officials reported on Thursday.

Chew was intercepted by the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) personnel at the Bitthamore-Jaleswar check-post during the inspection of a Bharat-Nepal Maitri bus on Wednesday. According to Pankaj Kumar Darad, IG (SSB), Frontier Patna, Chew failed to produce any travel or identification documents and was immediately detained. He identified himself as a resident of California (USA).

Darad further revealed that Chew had traveled from Anand Vihar Railway Station (New Delhi) to Patna on August 26 and then took a bus ticket from Patna to Sitamarhi, intending to cross into Nepal and reach Janakpur. Chew claimed to have visited several countries and had an Indian associate named Ravi Singh, who helped him acquire an Indian SIM card. He professed to be a trader in antique items and garments.

Handed over to the district police, Chew is currently being interrogated to verify the details of his associates, as confirmed by Manoj Kumari Tiwari, Superintendent of Police, Sitamarhi. A case has been filed against him, and the investigation is ongoing.
