China to Launch Anti-Dumping Probe into Canadian Imports Amid Escalating Trade Tensions
China plans an anti-dumping investigation into Canadian canola imports in retaliation for Canada's tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles, steel, and aluminium. The move, announced by the commerce ministry, is part of China's efforts to safeguard its companies' interests. China also plans to take the issue to the WTO.
China's commerce ministry announced plans on Tuesday to start an anti-dumping investigation into canola imports from Canada. This move comes as a retaliation after Ottawa imposed a 100% tariff on imports of Chinese electric vehicles, and additional tariffs on imported steel and aluminium.
A ministry spokesperson expressed China's strong opposition to the 'discriminatory unilateral restrictive measures taken by Canada,' according to a statement. The spokesperson emphasized that China will take necessary steps to protect its companies' legitimate interests.
In addition to the canola investigation, China will also look into allegations of dumping regarding certain Canadian chemical products. The country intends to bring Canada's trade practices to the World Trade Organization's dispute settlement mechanism.
