Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has declared the recent floods in Andhra Pradesh, particularly in Vijayawada, as the 'biggest disaster' he has encountered in his political career.
On Monday, Naidu announced plans to request the Central government to designate the floods as a national calamity. The devastating floods, which have already claimed at least 17 lives, have led Naidu to convert the NTR district Collectorate into a temporary secretariat to manage relief efforts.
Naidu emphasized that reports on the calamity will be sent to the Centre, requesting substantial financial aid to recover from the unprecedented losses. He recounted witnessing harrowing scenes, including families struggling to access food aid. Despite efforts, some victims in isolated areas remain without food. Relief operations will now include the use of helicopters and drones for better outreach.
