Former Lebanese central bank chief Riad Salameh was taken into custody on Tuesday over allegations of financial crimes, with his detention expected to continue until at least next week pending a hearing, according to judicial sources.

Following the hearing, a judge will decide whether Salameh should remain detained. Salameh's tenure at the central bank lasted 30 years, ending amid the country's financial collapse and multiple charges of financial misconduct.

The latest charges against Salameh involve embezzlement, theft of public funds, forgery, and illicit enrichment. He has previously denied all accusations, including separate charges linked to a company controlled by his brother, which allegedly diverted $330 million in public funds.
