The Jharkhand cabinet has taken a historic step by approving Rs 5 lakh medical insurance for lawyers in the state, which is expected to benefit about 30,000 lawyers.
Chaired by Chief Minister Hemant Soren, the cabinet also decided to double the pension for advocates aged 65 years and above to Rs 14,000 per month.
A monthly stipend of Rs 5,000 for newly enrolled advocates has also been sanctioned. An official statement detailed grants totaling Rs 10.5 crore to support these initiatives.
Advocate General Rajiv Ranjan lauded Jharkhand as a pioneering state for implementing such welfare measures, calling it an example for the entire country.
The chief minister expressed confidence that these steps would enable young men and women from poor families to enter the legal profession with more stability.
The cabinet also made decisions beneficial to other segments of society, like constructing a tribal students' hostel and expanding financial aid programs for women.
