Fresh violence erupted in Manipur's Jiribam district on Saturday, resulting in five fatalities, according to police reports.
On Friday, security forces dismantled three militant bunkers in Churachandpur district after the insurgents launched rocket attacks in Bishnupur that killed one and injured six others.
Saturday's violence saw one person shot dead in his sleep while four others were killed in an ensuing exchange of fire between warring communities, an officer said.
Following the killing, heavy gunfire erupted between the conflicting parties 7 km from the district headquarters, resulting in the deaths of four armed individuals, including three militants.
Earlier this week, arson occurred in Jiribam with suspected 'village volunteers' setting fire to an abandoned house.
The district saw renewed violence despite a recent peace agreement aimed at restoring normalcy. Several Hmar tribal bodies have denounced the agreement.
Tension remains high as multiple drone sightings have caused panic, and authorities are monitoring the situation closely.
