Ukraine's Air Defense Thwarts Russian Drone and Missile Attacks
Ukraine's air force successfully intercepted six out of eight Russian drones and two out of three missiles in a recent overnight attack. Kyiv authorities confirmed no injuries or damage in the city. Attacks continue across multiple regions, emphasizing Ukraine's need for enhanced air defense and strike capabilities.
Ukraine's air force reported on Monday that it had successfully intercepted six out of eight Russian-launched drones and two out of three missiles during an overnight assault spread across four regions.
The authorities in Kyiv stated that the fifth attack on the city in September caused no injuries or damage to the capital. Recent weeks have seen hundreds of Russian missile and drone attacks on Ukraine, leading Kyiv to urgently appeal to its Western allies for enhanced air defense and long-range strike capabilities.
Regional authorities revealed that on Monday, air defense made successful intercepts in the Kyiv region, with debris causing two fires which were promptly extinguished. Serhiy Lysak, governor of the central Dnipropetrovsk region, reported that air defense neutralized two missiles and a reconnaissance drone. Additionally, Russian shelling in Nikopol resulted in three injuries and the tragic death of a 16-year-old girl. The Cherkasy region governor also reported a drone interception with debris causing a fire that has been controlled.
The energy ministry noted that Russian forces attacked energy facilities in seven regions within 24 hours but did not specify the extent of the damage.
