Punjab Police's Crackdown on Trafficking Amidst Elections

The Punjab Police launched a special operation to inspect vehicles entering or exiting the state, focusing on curbing drug trafficking and liquor smuggling. The synchronized effort involved over 1,000 police personnel across 92 points in border districts. The operation also aimed to monitor anti-social activities during assembly elections in nearby states.

In a concerted effort to curb drug trafficking and liquor smuggling, the Punjab Police initiated a special operation on Monday, scrutinizing vehicles entering or exiting the state.

The operation, aligned with ongoing assembly elections in Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir, also sought to monitor anti-social elements' movement. Directed by Punjab's DGP Gaurav Yadav, it ran from 6 am to 2 pm.

Special DGP Arpit Shukla said senior superintendents of police (SSPs) in border districts were tasked with ensuring effective checks. Over 1,000 personnel covered 92 entry and exit points spanning 10 inter-state border districts. The police checked 4,245 vehicles, issued 293 challans, and impounded 16. They registered 26 FIRs, arrested 27 individuals, and rounded up 401 suspicious persons, recovering narcotics and illicit liquor in the process.
