North Korean leader Kim Jong Un declared that the nation is now implementing a policy to exponentially expand its nuclear arsenal, according to the state media KCNA on Tuesday.
In his speech marking North Korea's founding anniversary, Kim stressed the importance of enhancing the country's nuclear capabilities to secure the state against threats from the United States and its allies. He underscored the necessity of being prepared to use nuclear force when needed.
Kim pointed to a "grave threat" posed by a U.S.-led nuclear military bloc in the region. In response, South Korean, American, and Japanese defence officials condemned North Korea's recent nuclear developments and reaffirmed their commitment to trilateral cooperation for regional peace. They announced plans for a second joint military exercise. Concurrently, Germany joined the U.N. Command in South Korea, a move criticized by North Korea as escalating tensions.
