The Madras High Court has deemed the Tamil Nadu State Legal Services Authority's (TNSLSA) report on alleged sexual abuse at a fake NCC camp in Krishnagiri district as 'shocking'. This statement came during a hearing of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Advocate A P Suryaprakasam, who is pressing for the case to be transferred from Krishnagiri police to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
According to the report, an instructor at the two-day fake NCC camp showed weapons to students and threatened them to keep silent about the incidents. One main accused, the deceased Sivaraman, even threatened to cut their fingers. These events took place within school premises, highlighting severe lapses in oversight. The bench found this deeply troubling.
The TNSLSA's investigation included interaction with students, parents, teachers, and school management. The government, under court directive, issued a show-cause notice to the school. With the school's unsatisfactory response, the Department of Education is set to appoint a Special Officer. Compensation has been paid to the victims, although Suryaprakasam demands a further probe into Sivaraman's alleged suicide.
