In a significant development, Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud laid the foundation stone for the new Bombay High Court complex in Mumbai's Bandra region on Monday. The ceremony featured prominent attendees, including Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and senior judiciary members.

Historic stones from the existing High Court building in south Mumbai will be part of the new foundation, preserving a link to the past. The new complex will include modern, spacious courtrooms, chambers for judges, a mediation and arbitration center, and various amenities to support staff, lawyers, and litigants.

The Maharashtra government has committed to providing 30.16 acres of land for the project, with an initial tranche of 4.39 acres already handed over. Founded in 1862, the Bombay High Court continues to serve Maharashtra, Goa, and Union Territories with 66 sitting judges out of a sanctioned strength of 94.
