Akshay Shinde, the accused in a school sexual assault case, was killed while being transported by Thane police. The tragic sequence of events unfolded on Monday when Shinde, who was being relocated from Taloja Jail to Badlapur, attempted to attack the police escorting him.

The criminal managed to snatch a service revolver from API Nilesh More and fired three rounds, wounding the officer. Consequently, another officer in the police team acted in self-defense, firing one shot that fatally injured Shinde. The latter succumbed to his injuries at Kalwa Civic Hospital.

Shinde faced multiple charges under the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, linked to assaults on minor girls. A fresh FIR had been registered by his former wife, complicating his legal woes further.
