Assam's 39 New Sub-Districts to Become Functional on October 4

Thirty-nine newly formed sub-districts in Assam, termed 'Xama-Zilla' in Assamese, will become operational from October 4, 2024, to enhance administrative efficiency. These sub-districts will be led by an assistant district commissioner and two assistant commissioners, supported by various departmental officials and staff.

Thirty-nine new sub-districts, or 'Xama-Zilla' in Assamese, were established in Assam to boost administrative efficiency and will become operational on October 4, an official notification confirmed.

Each sub-district will have its headquarters, which will also begin functioning on the same day, noted the notification signed by MS Manivannan, commissioner and secretary of the General Administration Department.

The sub-districts will be managed by an assistant district commissioner and supported by two assistant commissioners and a team of officials from various relevant departments. This initiative aims to enhance synergy, productivity, and efficiency at the grassroots level for a citizen-centric administration.
