Russian Troops Achieve Breakthrough in Vuhledar

Russian troops have reached the center of Vuhledar, a key coal mining town in eastern Ukraine's Donetsk region. Russian troops have achieved a significant breakthrough by reaching the center of Vuhledar, a strategic coal mining town located in the eastern Donetsk region of Ukraine. Regional Governor of Donetsk confirmed the incursion on Tuesday.

Vuhledar, meaning 'gift of coal,' has a pre-war population of around 14,000, most of whom have fled. Located at a crucial intersection of eastern and southern battlefronts, the town's elevated terrain provides tactical advantages for both Russian and Ukrainian forces.

Fierce fighting since 2022 has left Vuhledar largely devastated. Images show Russian forces waving their flag over a damaged administrative building in the town center. Maksym Verbovsky, the town's deputy mayor, reported extensive damage and a significant civilian evacuation.
