Former Trinamool Congress minister Partha Chatterjee, who is currently in judicial custody in connection with a money laundering case, was arrested by the CBI for alleged irregularities in the recruitment process in primary schools, as stated during a hearing in a Kolkata court.
The development came shortly after the Supreme Court issued a notice to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) regarding Chatterjee's bail plea in the money laundering case.
During the City Sessions Court hearing, the judge noted that the CBI's ongoing investigation had unearthed Chatterjee's role in the purported recruitment fraud in state-run primary schools.
Chatterjee's counsel opposed his client's arrest in the primary recruitment corruption case.
Chatterjee, who has been unwell, appeared virtually during the Tuesday hearing along with the co-accused Ayan Sil.
In July 2022, Chatterjee was arrested by the ED in connection with the West Bengal School Service Commission (SSC) teacher recruitment scam.
