A teacher in Chandrapur district of Maharashtra was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl student on the premises of a private school, an official reported.
The accused, who also serves as the vice president of the Youth Congress in Korpana tehsil, is alleged to have lured the class 6 student to the school under the guise of a summer tuition class before sexually abusing her, according to the FIR.
The girl reportedly kept quiet due to the accused's threats to kill her parents, the official added. The incident came to light when her parents lodged an FIR late Tuesday night. The police subsequently registered the case under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The accused was apprehended at the Akola city bus stand, located 310 km from Korpana, on Wednesday morning as he attempted to flee. Crime branch officials then brought him back to Chandrapur district for further investigation, which is currently ongoing.
