Militant Cadres Arrested in Manipur for Extortion
Two cadres of the banned militant outfit PREPAK have been arrested in Imphal West, Manipur for allegedly extorting businessmen. Police seized mobile phones and a two-wheeler. The state has set up an anti-extortion cell after extortion cases surged post-ethnic violence that began in May 2023.

Manipur police have apprehended two members of the banned militant group People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) in the Imphal West district, on allegations of extorting local businessmen.
Authorities seized two mobile phones and a two-wheeler during the Saturday arrest, marking an effort to clamp down on the rising tide of extortion.
The state has initiated an anti-extortion cell as extortion levels have surged, particularly after May 2023 ethnic violence, during which police armouries were looted in a backdrop of deadly clashes.
