In a significant breakthrough, the Delhi Police have apprehended five men, including a former employee of a retired Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) scientist, on charges of stealing Rs 2 crore in cash and gold from the scientist's residence at knife point. The theft occurred in Rohini, with the suspects posing as courier personnel to gain access to the home.
The arrests came in two separate operations, with the Crime Branch playing a crucial role. Officials have already recovered Rs 1.1 crore of the stolen assets. The accused had contrived a detailed plan, with insider guidance from Gaurav Kawatra, a former employee of the scientist. The culprits used concealed vehicle registration and a cunning disguise to carry out the crime.
CCTV footage played a pivotal role in tracking the suspects, ultimately leading to their capture. Police continue their investigation, diligently pursuing remaining associates involved in the audacious heist that shook Prashant Vihar.
