Horlivka's Jamming Solution: Drones vs. Buses in Conflict Zone

Authorities in the Russia-controlled town of Horlivka in eastern Ukraine have turned to technology to mitigate the threat of drone strikes. Local officials revealed to Reuters that jamming devices have been installed on some buses after a Ukrainian drone attack injured three people earlier this month.

These jammers interfere with a drone's ability to communicate with its operator, thus reducing its threat. While they offer some level of protection, jammers are not foolproof as crashing drones still pose a danger. "We sought help because we can't protect bus drivers and passengers ourselves. We've received four jammers," said Vladimir Mironov, who manages a local bus depot.

Despite unknown effectiveness, Horlivka remains on high alert for attacks due to its frontline proximity. Donetsk, held by Russian forces since 2014, continues to face artillery fire. The region is one of four Ukrainian territories partly occupied by Russia, creating a flashpoint in the ongoing conflict.
