In an ambitious bid to empower women, the Odisha government is preparing to distribute Rs 5,000 to 20 lakh beneficiaries by the end of November, as part of the Subhadra Yojana's third phase. This government initiative, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 17, targets the upliftment of women across the state.
The Subhadra Yojana, a flagship initiative, has already provided financial assistance to 60 lakh women in its first two phases, with 25 lakh women benefiting in the initial phase and 35 lakh in the second. Odisha Deputy Chief Minister, Pravati Parida, disclosed that the third phase disbursement is scheduled for November 24, during a function at Sundergarh, with Union Ministers Dharmendra Pradhan and Jual Oram expected to attend.
Addressing the media, Parida also noted that the state government plans to extend the scheme's reach, ultimately covering around 1 crore women, including Anganwadi workers. Nevertheless, some challenges remain, with approximately 2.67 lakh applications rejected due to bank detail discrepancies, while rejected lists have been posted at local panchayat offices for transparency.
