CPI(M) leader P Jayarajan has come forward to defend the decision to grant parole to Kodi Suni, a convict in the 2012 T P Chandrasekharan murder case. Jayarajan emphasized that prisons are meant for reformation, allowing even those convicted of severe crimes to be eligible for parole.
In response to criticisms from media outlets, Jayarajan explained that the parole was granted based on a complaint from Suni's mother to the Human Rights Commission. The prison department was directed to consider granting parole on humanitarian grounds, leading to the prison chief's order for a 30-day leave.
The decision has sparked political controversy, with opposition Congress-UDF accusing the Left government of challenging the legal system. The murder of the RMP leader Chandrasekharan in 2012 involved allegations of conspiracy against ruling CPI(M) leaders, intensifying the situation.
