The Uttarakhand High Court has transferred the bail application of Abdul Malik, the alleged mastermind behind the Banbhoolpura riots, to the trial court for consideration.
Presiding over the case, a division bench of Chief Justice Guhanathan Narendar and Justice Manoj Kumar Tiwari emphasized the need for a detailed examination by the trial court, mandating a decision within four weeks.
The riots, which erupted after the demolition of an illegal madrassa, claimed six lives and injured several, including 100 police personnel. It coincided with the Uttarakhand assembly's passage of a bill to implement a Uniform Civil Code.
