In a significant bust by customs authorities, two men from Manipur were apprehended at an international airport for allegedly attempting to smuggle gold worth Rs 1.34 crore into the country.
The suspects, both around 19 years of age, were detained upon their arrival from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
The gold, weighing 1.8 kg, was ingeniously disguised as a chemical paste and hidden in their rectum, authorities confirmed. Both individuals were subsequently arrested.
