Fatal Gas Explosion Rocks Taichung Department Store

A suspected gas explosion in Taichung, Taiwan, has resulted in four fatalities and 24 injuries. The explosion occurred on the 12th floor of the Shin Kong Mitsukoshi department store during construction work. Authorities are investigating the cause, as called for by Taiwan's President, Lai Ching-te.

The explosion caused damage starting from the 9th floor upward. Fortunately, the food court located on the 12th floor was closed because of the construction work at the time of the blast.

The prompt and efficient response from local emergency services helped contain the situation. Taiwan's President, Lai Ching-te, emphasized on social media the necessity for a swift investigation to ascertain the explosion's cause. One injured person remains in intensive care, according to the health ministry's report.
