Hamas announced on Thursday its plan to release another group of Israeli hostages, resolving a significant disagreement that endangered the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. The militant group reported that mediators from Egypt and Qatar pledged to remove obstacles to implementing the ceasefire agreement. The statement confirmed that three additional hostages would be released by Saturday. There was no immediate response from Israel regarding the announcement.

While this decision allows the current truce to persist, the long-term future of the ceasefire remains uncertain. Tensions had risen as Hamas accused Israel of not fulfilling its part of the truce, particularly in providing necessary humanitarian aid like tents and shelters. Israel, with backing from U.S. President Donald Trump, threatened to renew military offensives if hostages were not released.

Hamas officials recently held discussions in Cairo with Egyptian authorities and consulted Qatar's prime minister regarding efforts to facilitate the entry of shelters, medical supplies, fuel, and equipment for rubble clearance into Gaza. Egypt's Qahera TV, which has governmental ties, reported that both Egypt and Qatar played crucial roles in mitigating the dispute. These countries have been instrumental in mediating the ceasefire agreement, which has been in effect since January, marking 15 months since the conflict began.
